Maxam specializes in off-highway and industrial tires: the rubber under loaders, haul trucks, material handling equipment and the machines that work yards, sites and plant floors rather than roads.
That focus puts it in the same conversation as OTR tires, carried at 55 Purcell locations in 12 states, and industrial tires, carried at 52.
What decides an off-highway tire
Almost nothing that decides a car tire:
- Load, because the machine is carrying or lifting rather than cruising.
- Surface, because sharp rock cuts tires and smooth haul roads heat them.
- Cycle, because hours and distance per shift determine how much heat builds.
- Damage mode, because cuts, impact breaks, heat separation and sidewall damage each point at a different answer.
Price per tire comes last, and on equipment this size it is frequently the least important number in the decision.
Service is most of the value
An off-highway tire program is service rather than supply:
- OTR services at 41 locations: fitting, change-outs and repairs on tires worth saving.
- Mining fleet services at 13 locations in seven states, for sites running a managed program.
- Wheel refurbishing at 42 locations, which on large wheels is usually far cheaper than replacement.
- Retreading at seven plants. Six list OTR and industrial casings among what they retread or repair.
