How North Carolina is served
North Carolina is a retread state for Purcell. The Cleveland plant is one of seven in the company and the only Purcell presence east of Kentucky.
What that means in practice: this is where casings are worked on, not where tires are bought or vehicles serviced. The plant retreads and repairs agricultural, commercial, industrial, light truck, OTR, passenger, trailer, and UTV and ATV casings, which covers everything Purcell retreads except tracks, which no plant handles.
Its hours reflect plant work rather than retail: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
For tires, service or anything that needs fitting, the nearest Purcell stores are in Kentucky. For how casings move through the program, see retreading.
Why a plant sits here
Retreading is a volume business and a regional one. Casings are heavy, and hauling them a long way erodes the saving that makes retreading worth doing in the first place. Seven plants spread across the country is what lets a fleet in one region send casings somewhere sensible rather than shipping them across several states.
Cleveland covers the eastern end of that network. The six others are in Phoenix, AZ, Denver, CO, Boise, ID, Potosi, MO, Portland, OR and Salt Lake City, UT.
What this means for a fleet
If you run trucks and your tires are being scrapped at first wear-out, the casing is where your money is going. A sound casing can carry new tread rather than going to scrap, and the decision about which casings qualify is made by inspection rather than by age or appearance. Talk to the Purcell store you deal with about getting casings inspected and into the program.
