Purcell Retread Plant in Denver, CO

The Purcell retread plant at 3855 E 52nd Ave in Denver retreads and repairs tire casings for commercial, agricultural, OTR and light vehicle applications. It sells no tires and services no vehicles. The Purcell service store at the same address does both.

A plant on the same site as a store

Of Purcell's seven retread plants, this is the one sharing an address with a full service store. Purcell Tire & Service on (303) 308-6900 sells tires and works on vehicles. This number, (303) 210-1445, reaches the plant.

For a fleet, the arrangement is useful rather than confusing once you know it. Casings come off a truck at the store and go into the plant without a journey in between, and the inspection conversation happens between people on the same site.

What this plant retreads

Eight casing categories: commercial truck, agricultural, OTR, industrial, light truck, passenger, trailer, and UTV and ATV.

Tracks are the exception, and no Purcell plant retreads them.

These are casings the plant works on, not tires it sells. For tires in Denver, call the service store at this address or the distribution location on Harrison Street.

Where the casings come from

Four Colorado locations collect casings for the program: Denver, Colorado Springs, Loveland and Craig. Stores in neighboring states send casings to whichever plant is nearest them.

You deal with the store, not the plant. The casings move without anyone having to arrange a trip.

What decides whether a casing passes

Inspection, and mostly what happened before it arrived. A tire run flat, even briefly, usually ends the casing. Unrepaired damage works through it over time. Chronic under-inflation cooks it from the inside where nobody can see.

Stopping a unit the moment a tire fails, and calling roadside assistance, is what keeps a casing alive. On a Colorado fleet running grades, that matters more than it does on the flat: a tire losing air on a climb is working harder than one losing air on a highway.

What a fleet gets out of it

The arithmetic is the same everywhere and it is worth stating plainly. The tread is what wears out. The casing is what costs money to manufacture, and a well-treated one outlives several treads. A fleet that scraps tires at first wear-out is throwing away the expensive half every time.

Retreading reuses it. What decides how much you get back is not the retread itself but the condition the casings arrive in, which is a function of inflation discipline, repairing damage early, and not running tires flat. Fleets that pay attention to those three see more of their casings come back usable; fleets that do not send a lot of scrap.

The store you deal with can tell you what proportion of your casings is currently passing inspection, which is the number worth knowing before changing anything else.
