How Oregon is served
Oregon is a retread state for Purcell. The Portland plant is one of seven, and it is the Purcell location nearest to Alaska, where no store offers retreading.
The plant retreads and repairs agricultural, commercial, industrial, light truck, OTR, passenger, trailer, and UTV and ATV casings. Tracks are not retreaded at any Purcell plant, so a worn set is replaced rather than renewed. See tracks.
Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The only other Purcell location open on a Saturday is the store in Pahrump, Nevada.
For tires, fitting or vehicle service, the nearest Purcell stores are in Washington, at Lacey, Monroe and Renton.
What the plant does for the region
The three Washington stores all collect casings for the retreading program, and Portland is where that work happens. For a fleet running the I-5 corridor, that is a short haul for a casing rather than a cross-country one, which is most of what decides whether retreading is worth doing on any given tire.
The plant also serves customers further north. No Purcell location in Alaska offers retreading, and Portland is the closest of the seven plants to that part of the network.
Getting casings in
Through the Purcell store you already deal with. Casings are collected there, inspected, retreaded and returned ready to run. A casing has to be sound to qualify, and the one thing that most often disqualifies it is being run flat, even briefly. See retreading for what the process involves and what decides whether a casing passes.
