How many lives are you getting out of a casing
This is the number that tells you whether a retreading program is working, and most fleets have never calculated it.
A sound casing can carry more than one retread over its life. If your casings are coming back once and then failing, something is happening to them between retreads, and finding out what is worth more than any price negotiation on the tires themselves.
The answer is usually one of three things, and each points somewhere different.
Heat, from running under-inflated. The commonest by a distance, and in this climate the version that catches people out is seasonal: cold air lowers pressure, nobody resets it, and the tire spends the winter working harder than it should.
Damage left unrepaired, which spreads from a small injury into a structural one over a few thousand miles.
Running a tire too far, which is a removal policy problem rather than a maintenance one. Past a certain point there is no casing left to work with, however well it was looked after.
Ask the store what your casings are coming back as, and track it. A rate that moves is a rate you are controlling.
Where the work happens
Purcell runs seven retread plants and the Denver plant serves Colorado. This store collects casings and arranges transport in both directions, so you deal with Loveland rather than the plant.
Loveland is one of 54 Purcell locations collecting casings.
The winter version of the problem
Worth stating separately because it is the most preventable loss here. A tire correct in October is low in December without anybody touching it, and the damage it accumulates over a season is internal and invisible.
Pressures checked cold, through the winter rather than once before it, cost nothing and protect more casings here than anything else a fleet can do. Build it into a fleet account so it happens rather than being remembered.
What the plant takes
Commercial truck, agricultural, OTR, industrial, light truck, passenger, trailer, and UTV and ATV casings. Tracks are not retreaded at any Purcell plant.
About this store
The Loveland store runs sixteen services, carries all nine Purcell tire categories, opens at 7:00 AM, and is managed by Joe Servin. Denver, Colorado Springs and Craig collect for the same plant.
See the national retreading page for how the program works and for all 54 collecting locations.
