A commercial truck brand
Roadmaster is a commercial truck tire brand, which puts it in a different conversation from the passenger car names. The customer is a fleet manager, an owner-operator or a maintenance supervisor, and the question is never simply what the tire costs.
The three numbers that decide it
Cost per mile, not cost per tire. A cheaper tire that gives fewer miles and a casing nobody can retread is not cheaper. Work it out across the life of the casing rather than across the invoice.
Casing life. The casing is the expensive structure, and retreading through Purcell's seven plants is what reuses it. Ask how the casings in your fleet are coming back before you change specification.
Availability. A specification that cannot be got hold of at 2:00 AM in a state you did not plan to stop in is a specification that will be substituted at the roadside. 24-hour roadside assistance runs from 48 Purcell locations in 12 states.
Position matters
Steer, drive and trailer tires do different jobs on the same unit, and the brand question is really three questions. See commercial tires for how the positions differ and trailer tires for the ones that get neglected most.
