Round matters as much as balanced
Balancing corrects uneven weight. It cannot correct a tire and wheel assembly that is not round, and the two problems feel almost identical from the driver's seat.
Every tire and every wheel has slight variations. A tire has a point where it is very slightly taller, and a wheel has a point where it runs very slightly out. Mount the tire so that its high point sits on the wheel's high point, and the two add together. The assembly runs out of round by more than either part alone, and no amount of weight fixes that.
Mount them so the high point of one meets the low point of the other, and the variations largely cancel. That is called match mounting, and on a vehicle that keeps shaking after a balance it is often the step that was missing.
What it means when you book
If a vibration has survived a balance, say so. It points away from weight and toward roundness: how the tire sits on the wheel, a bead that did not seat evenly, or a wheel that has been bent.
A bent or damaged wheel is a wheel job rather than a balance job, and wheel refurbishing is at this store. A shake that started after a blowout on a dual may also be the partner tire, which is worth raising on a roadside call.
