In Paducah, fittings come here
Purcell has two stores in Paducah, and the difference that catches people out is balancing. The consumer store on Hinkleville Rd does not list tire and wheel balancing. This store on Wayne Sullivan Dr does.
That matters because balancing is part of fitting a tire. Every new tire on a wheel needs balancing before it goes back on the vehicle, so a tire purchase, a tire swap, or remounting tires on different wheels belongs at this address. The Paducah city page explains the rest of the difference between the two stores.
When to ask for a balance
- New tires. Every fitting is balanced.
- Tires moved to different wheels. A tire and wheel balanced together are a matched pair; separated and remounted, they need balancing again.
- A vibration at highway speed that was not there before. On I-24 that usually shows up somewhere between town speed and cruise.
- A lost weight. A clean patch on the rim where a weight used to sit means one has come off.
For trucks and trailers
The same applies to commercial units, and it is easy to overlook on trailers, where nobody sits close enough to feel it. Uneven, patchy wear on a trailer tire is often the first sign. Balancing heavy assemblies is done here alongside heavy-duty truck alignment.
When it is not balance
A pull, or a vibration at every speed, is alignment or a worn part. One that survives a balance is often the wheel itself, and wheel refurbishing is at this store too. The national tire and wheel balancing page covers the other occasions worth asking for it.
This is the Commercial & Consumer listing.
