Lift kits, leveling kits and bigger tires change the geometry

Pickups in a trucking business often get modified: a leveling kit to sit the front up, a lift, larger tires for work sites or winter. Each of those changes the angles the wheels sit at, and the factory alignment no longer applies to the truck that exists.

A truck that has been lifted or leveled and not aligned afterwards will usually still drive. It may feel a little vague on center, or pull gently, and the tires will start wearing on one edge. With larger, more expensive tires, that wear is a costly way to find out.

The rule is simple. Any change to ride height or tire size gets an alignment at the same time, or as soon after as possible.

Weight changes it too

A pickup that spends most of its life carrying a toolbox, a fuel tank or a fifth-wheel hitch in the bed sits differently from the same truck empty. If the truck always carries that weight, mention it when you book, so it can be aligned as it actually runs.

Signs to watch for

  • The steering wheel is off center on a straight road.
  • The truck drifts to one side.
  • One edge of a front tire is wearing faster than the other.
  • The truck was lifted, leveled or fitted with different-size tires.

Same building

A vibration rather than a pull is usually tire and wheel balancing. Worn parts that will not hold an alignment are suspension repair. Both are here. The national alignment page covers how the check works.

Yes. Changing ride height changes the wheel angles. Align at the same time or soon after.

What about larger tires?

The same applies. A change in tire size is a reason to align.

The truck always carries weight in the bed.

Say so when you book, so it can be aligned the way it actually runs.

Can you align our tractors and trailers here too?
