Label every wheel before it leaves the farm
Wheel refurbishing is usually done in batches. A set of trailer wheels, the rims from a tractor, a pile of wheels collected over a season. For an operation some distance from Princeton, bringing them in together makes sense. It also creates a small problem that is easy to prevent.
Once a set of wheels comes off a machine, they look alike. Without a mark on each one, nobody can say afterwards which wheel came from which position, and that history is worth keeping.
Wear has a pattern. A wheel from a position that keeps losing air, or one that took an impact, tells you something about the machine or the job, not just the wheel.
Some wheels belong together. Duals, and matched pairs on a machine, are worth keeping matched.
Rejected wheels are information. If one wheel in a set cannot be refurbished, you want to know which position it came from.
A paint marker or a tag on each wheel with the unit and position, written before it comes off, solves all of it.
What to send with them
A short note: the machine or trailer each wheel came from, its position, and anything you know about it, such as a slow leak, a knock against something, or a tire that was hard to seat. That helps the inspection and keeps the paperwork straight on the way back.
What refurbishing restores
The inspection comes first and decides whether a wheel can be refurbished at all. A crack ends the wheel and it is replaced. Sound wheels are cleaned, the sealing surfaces restored, and the finish renewed. As the store page notes, on large agricultural and equipment wheels refurbishing is usually far cheaper than buying new.
The tires coming off are worth a look for retreading, and machine tires are OTR services. Both are here. The national wheel refurbishing page covers the process.

Paducah Commercial & Consumer and Henderson also refurbish wheels.
