No account? Settle how the work gets paid for on the call
A lot of the units that stop near Joplin belong to carriers based nowhere near here. The truck is on I-44, the driver is a long way from the home terminal, and nobody at the company has ever dealt with this store. That is a normal call, and it goes quickly when one question is answered early rather than late.
Who is paying, and how.
A technician can be on the way while that is being sorted, but the work cannot be released until it is settled, and a driver who has to reach a dispatcher in another time zone after the tire is fitted adds an hour that nobody needed to spend.
The useful order on the call is:
- Where the unit is and what failed. Highway, direction, nearest exit or mile marker, tire size and position.
- Who authorizes the work. A name and a number at the carrier that will answer.
- How it will be paid. Ask the store what it accepts and have the carrier confirm it while the technician is still driving out.
Carriers who run this corridor regularly avoid the question altogether by setting up a fleet account, so the authorization is already on file when the call comes in.
What is covered
Commercial units: tractors, trailers, straight trucks and equipment. Once the unit is rolling, the store behind the call also does heavy-duty truck alignment and trailer alignment, which matters when the failure turns out to have a cause.
The national roadside assistance page lists what any call needs.
Nearest other roadside stores
Springfield to the east on I-44, and Springdale, AR to the south.
