Book it in the quiet months
A lake area runs on a season, and the store's queue follows it. When the weather turns and the boats, trailers and side-by-sides come back out, everything that was put off over winter arrives at once: tires, A/C, and inspections among them.
An inspection is one of the few jobs on that list you can usually see coming. Your paperwork tells you when it is due. If that date falls in the busy months, there is often nothing stopping you from getting it done earlier, in a quieter week, and having it settled.
Confirm the timing that applies to your vehicle with the store or the state before you move it. Missouri sets the requirement, it changes from time to time, and the store will tell you what applies when you book.
The driveway check before you come
A handful of simple things account for a large share of avoidable failures, and every one can be checked at home:
- Every light, including brake lights and the plate light. Have someone stand behind the vehicle while you press the pedal.
- Wiper blades and washer fluid.
- Tires: tread, cuts, bulges, anything worn to the cords.
- Horn and mirrors.
- Any warning light lit on the dash.
If something fails
You will be told what and why. Osage Beach also handles brake repair, suspension repair, tires and the rest of the light vehicle list, so a correction can often happen in the same building. Ask what it will cost before anything is done.
The national state inspections page lists all ten Purcell inspection locations.
Other Missouri inspection stores
Springfield and Washington also perform state inspections.
