Bring the paperwork the first time
A surprising number of inspection visits stall on documents rather than on the vehicle. The car is ready, the time is booked, and the one piece of paper the inspection needs is in a drawer at home.
What the state requires for your vehicle, and what the inspection covers, are set by Missouri and change from time to time. Confirm both with the store when you book, or with the state directly. Then gather what they tell you the night before, rather than on the way out of the door.
A simple routine helps:
- Ask when you book what to bring for your vehicle and inspection type.
- Put the documents in the vehicle the evening before.
- Bring the keys to anything locked, such as a locking gas cap or wheel locks, in case access is needed.
- Note the mileage in case it is asked for.
The quick check before you come
Lights, including brake lights and the plate light. Wipers and washer fluid. Tires, for tread and visible damage. Horn and mirrors. Any warning light on the dash. These account for a large share of avoidable failures, and every one can be looked at in a driveway.
If something needs fixing
Springfield runs nineteen services, so most faults an inspection turns up can be put right at the same address: brake repair, suspension repair, tires and the rest. Ask for the cost before any work starts. The national state inspections page lists all ten Purcell inspection locations.

Joplin inspects to the west, and Osage Beach to the northeast.
