A tubeless tire seals against the wheel
That sentence is the whole case for this service. There is no inner tube holding the air. The air is held between the tire bead and the wheel, and the surface doing the sealing is a narrow band of metal that corrosion attacks first.
A pitted bead seat does not fail dramatically. It leaks slowly, and the result looks like a tire problem: a wheel that needs topping up every week, a new tire fitted that behaves exactly the same way, and a driver who has stopped mentioning it.
Nobody checks the wheel, because the wheel is assumed not to be a consumable.
What it is worth
A commercial or equipment wheel costs real money to replace, and refurbishing is a fraction of that. On larger sizes the gap widens considerably, which is why it is worth asking before an order goes in.
What you get back is a wheel that seals, runs true and goes into service. What you do not get back is a wheel that was beyond saving: a crack, or damage affecting the structure, ends it, and the inspection says so before any work starts rather than afterwards.
The right moment is when the tire is already off
The version of this service that costs least is the one that adds no downtime at all.
Billings collects casings for retreading, and a wheel is never more accessible than when its tire has just come off for the plant. The same applies at a seasonal changeover, or when a set is being replaced anyway.
Sending wheels through at those moments rather than when a leak becomes annoying is the difference between planned work and a second visit.
When a vibration is the wheel
A tire balanced perfectly on a bent or out-of-round wheel still shakes. The usual response is to rebalance and conclude the shop got it wrong.
Billings offers tire and wheel balancing at the same address, so the wheel can be checked in the same visit instead of repeating the balance and hoping.
Equipment wheels
Billings also runs OTR services, so a wheel from a loader or haul truck and the tire on it are handled in one place rather than at two suppliers. For a machine that means one period of downtime instead of two.
