The check that belongs in March
Most of the country has a winter list. Here the season to prepare for is summer, and the vehicle that gets through it without trouble is generally the one that was looked at in spring.
What belongs on it, in rough order of what summer actually tests:
- Air conditioning, first, because a fault found in March is a repair and the same fault in July is a repair you cannot do without.
- Cooling system, including the pressure cap, which costs very little and protects more than anything else on the system.
- Battery tested, not assumed. Heat is what degrades a battery, and a test tells you more than the fact that it started this morning.
- Tires measured and set cold, including the spare, which is the one that will be needed if anything goes wrong on a hot road.
- Belts and hoses, which age by time and heat rather than by use.
- Rubber underneath, since bushings and boots perish here in a way they do not in a mild climate. See suspension repair.
Done in March, each of those is a job. Found in July, each is a problem, and several of them are a problem on a road where stopping is genuinely unpleasant.
Saturday is how it gets done
Everything above is routine work on a vehicle that is presently fine, which is precisely the kind of work that gets deferred because the vehicle is needed during the week.
Saturday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, is the slot that removes that excuse. Pahrump is one of only two Purcell locations in the country open on a Saturday, and spring Saturdays are the ones worth booking.
Which interval applies the rest of the year
Heat, dust, short trips and towing all shorten a service interval, which the national scheduled maintenance page explains.
About this store
The Pahrump store runs thirteen services and is managed by Sam Knapp.
See the national scheduled maintenance page for all 33 locations.
