Say exactly how it is failing
"The A/C is not working" covers half a dozen different faults, and each one points somewhere different. The more precisely you describe it, the shorter the search.
Before you book, notice which of these fits.
No cold air at all, from the moment it is switched on. That points toward the system not running: low refrigerant, an electrical fault, or a compressor that is not engaging.
Cold at first, then warm after a while. A system that starts well and fades suggests something that changes as it runs, such as a part icing up or a compressor that cuts out once it is hot.
Cold on the highway, warm in town. Cooling that depends on road speed often relates to airflow across the condenser at the front of the vehicle, including the cooling fan that should be doing that job at low speed.
Cold on one side only. On vehicles with separate driver and passenger controls, that is frequently a blend door or its actuator rather than the refrigerant side at all.
Air barely coming out of the vents. Weak airflow is often a blower or a clogged cabin air filter, not cooling.
Add any noise when the A/C is switched on, any smell, and whether the problem started suddenly or crept in over a season.
What the check covers
Pressures, the compressor and its clutch, the condenser, the fan, and leaks. A system that has needed a recharge before has a leak somewhere, and finding it is the actual repair. The national A/C service page covers what a recharge does and does not fix.
If the engine temperature is climbing as well, mention it: cooling system work is in the same building, and so is engine repair.
