Bought it used with no records? Start a new baseline
A used vehicle often arrives with an incomplete history. The seller says it was "always serviced," the paperwork is missing, and the maintenance schedule in the manual assumes you know what was done at every earlier interval. You do not.
The sensible approach is to stop guessing and set a new starting point.
Assume the long-interval items are due. Some maintenance items come up only after many thousands of miles, and they are the easiest to skip because they are expensive and invisible. Spark plugs, transmission fluid, brake fluid and coolant are typical examples, depending on the vehicle. Without proof they were done, treat them as outstanding and check each one.
Look before you replace. Some items can be assessed by condition rather than replaced on faith. Fluids can be checked, belts and hoses inspected, brakes measured. That keeps the first visit sensible rather than replacing everything at once.
Write down what was done. Whatever is checked or replaced on that first visit, at that mileage, becomes the baseline. From then on, the manual's schedule works again, because you know where you are on it.
Keep everything from here on. Every receipt, with the date and the mileage. The next owner will ask the same question you did.
Before buying, if you can
If you are still deciding on a vehicle, a look at its condition before you commit is worth more than any promise about its history. Ask what can be checked in the time available.
What scheduled maintenance covers
The items the manufacturer lists for your vehicle at its mileage: fluids, filters, belts and inspections. Work that comes out of the inspection is its own service here, including brake repair and oil changes. The national scheduled maintenance page explains how the schedule works.
Other stores nearby
In Salt Lake City, the Commercial & Consumer store and the Truck Tire Center also offer scheduled maintenance.
