Order by the job, not only by the size
The size on the sidewall says whether a tire will fit the machine. It says nothing about whether it suits the work the machine does, and on equipment that second question decides how long the tire lasts.
The same size is commonly made in several versions. A deeper tread for long life on abrasive ground. A tougher construction that resists cuts on rock. A pattern that cleans itself in mud or clay. A tread suited to traction rather than wear. Fit the wrong one and a perfectly good tire can wear out early, or cut, on work it was never meant for.
That is why the most useful thing to say when you call is not just the size. It is what the machine does.
What to describe
- The surface. Shot rock, gravel, dirt, clay, sand, or pavement between sites.
- The task. Loading, pushing, hauling, grading, or traveling.
- The distance. Whether the machine works in one spot or travels much of the day.
- What has been failing. Cuts, fast wear, heat or chunking on the current tires.
With that, the store can tell you whether the tire you have been buying is the right one for the job, or whether a different version would last longer for the same machine.
Fitting and repair
Change-outs, fitting and repairs on off-highway tires are done through this store. A tire with a cut may be repairable, and the assessment decides. The wheels behind the tires are wheel refurbishing, and casings worth another life go through retreading, both here.
The national OTR services page covers fitting, repair and supply in more detail.
