Waiting safely is part of the call
In northwest Arizona the next Purcell store is a long way off in every direction, so a roadside call from out here often involves a wait before the service truck arrives. How a driver spends that wait matters more than most fleets plan for.
A stopped truck on a highway shoulder is at risk from the traffic still moving past it. A few habits reduce that risk considerably.
Get as far off the road as the ground allows. A few extra feet from the traffic lane is worth more than a convenient spot. Avoid stopping just over a rise or around a bend where approaching drivers will not see the unit in time.
Warning devices out, and placed properly. Hazard lights on, and reflective triangles set back along the shoulder at the distances the regulations require, so approaching traffic has time to react.
Know where the driver should be. Standing beside the unit on the traffic side is the worst place to wait. Drivers should stay clear of the traffic lane, and decide based on the conditions whether the cab or a spot well away from the road is safer.
Keep the phone charged and the location ready. The service truck may call back to confirm the position or ask about the tire.
Make it part of the briefing
None of this is new to experienced drivers, but newer ones may never have been told, and the time to tell them is before a breakdown rather than during one. A short written note in the cab, next to the roadside number, covers it.
What is covered
Commercial units: tractors, trailers, straight trucks and equipment. The store carries all nine Purcell tire categories, so the tire you need is more likely to be on hand. Authorization is quicker on a fleet account, and a damaged wheel can go to wheel refurbishing here. The national roadside assistance page lists what any call needs.
Other roadside stores
North Las Vegas across the state line and Phoenix Commercial & Consumer to the southeast also run roadside assistance.
About this store
