Purcell Tire & Service in Washington, UT

The Purcell commercial store at 1316 W. Red Hills Parkway in Washington serves southwest Utah with five services and all nine tire categories. It is the Purcell location nearest the southwest corner of the state.

Five services, every tire category

A short service list and a full tire range is a deliberate combination. This store is a long way from the rest of the Utah network, so what it holds matters more than what it performs.

The five: 24-hour roadside assistance, fleet services, OTR services, retreading and tire and wheel balancing.

The nine categories mean a tractor tire, a haul truck tire, a trailer tire and a passenger tire all come off the same shelf, even though the store fits tires rather than repairing vehicles.

No vehicle repair, and no alignment

Two gaps worth stating plainly, because both are things people assume a tire store does:

  • No general repair. Brakes, oil changes, A/C, cooling system and engine work are not offered. The nearest Purcell stores for those are a long way north, in Orem and Salt Lake City.
  • No alignment of any kind. Not for cars, trucks or trailers. The nearest Purcell locations offering it are Orem and Salt Lake City.

What this store is for is tires, the equipment that runs on them, and a truck that has stopped.

Distance is the local condition

Southwest Utah is far from the rest of the network, and the nearest Purcell locations in any direction are a drive: Orem and Salt Lake City to the north, North Las Vegas and Pahrump across the Nevada line to the southwest.

Two habits follow for anyone running equipment here. Confirm the sizes you cannot do without before you need them, since the alternative to local stock is a wait rather than a drive. Stop a unit the moment a tire fails rather than running it in, because a casing destroyed out here is a replacement that has to travel.

Retreading

Casings collected here go to the Purcell retread plant in Salt Lake City and return ready to run. Nothing is retreaded on site.

On OTR and agricultural tires especially, having a casing inspected before scrapping it is worth the step. The tread wears out long before a well-treated casing does. See retreading.

Summer, and what it does to a tire

Southwest Utah gets genuine heat, and heat is what kills tires rather than mileage.

The mechanism is simple. An under-inflated tire flexes more, flexing generates heat, and heat breaks the tire down internally where no inspection from the outside will find it. A tire that would survive the same pressure in a cool climate does not survive it here.

Three practical consequences:

  • Check pressure cold, in the morning, before the surface and the sun have had their say.
  • Do not bleed pressure out of a hot tire. It reads high because it is hot; letting air out leaves it under-inflated once it cools.
  • Watch load as much as pressure. An overloaded tire at correct pressure generates heat the same way an under-inflated one does.

Questions

Questions about the Washington store

Can I get my car serviced here?

Tires and balancing, yes, and the store carries every category. General repair, no: brakes, oil changes, A/C and engine work are not offered at this location.

Do you do alignment?

No. No alignment of any kind is offered here. The nearest Purcell locations for it are Orem and Salt Lake City.

What are the hours?

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 24-hour roadside assistance covers commercial units outside those hours.

Do you carry OTR and farm tires?

Yes, all nine Purcell categories. OTR services covers fitting, change-outs and repairs on off-highway tires.

How quickly can you get a size that is not in stock?

Call and ask rather than assuming. Southwest Utah is a long way from the rest of the network, which is exactly why confirming the sizes you depend on in advance is worth the phone call.
