Retreading in Boise, ID

Purcell Tire & Service collects casings for retreading at 8718 S. Eisenman Rd in Boise. The Purcell retread plant is at 8670 S. Eisenman Rd, on the same road. Call (208) 368-7801.

The plant is on this road

Purcell runs seven retread plants, spread widely enough that most stores send casings a considerable distance. The Boise plant is at 8670 S. Eisenman Rd and this store is at 8718.

What that removes is the part of retreading that puts people off: the haul. Casings are heavy and bulky, and the cost and time of moving them is what erodes the saving. Here there is barely a journey.

The store collects, the plant works, the tire comes back. Nothing about the trip is yours to arrange.

Two separate Purcell locations

Worth being clear about, because the addresses are close enough to confuse. The store at 8718 sells tires and services vehicles. The plant at 8670, on (208) 336-7877 and managed by Wayne May, retreads and repairs casings and sells nothing.

Deal with the store. Casings go to the plant from here.

What the plant will take

Eight categories: commercial truck, agricultural, OTR, industrial, light truck, passenger, trailer, and UTV and ATV casings. Tracks are not retreaded at any Purcell plant, so a worn set is replaced.

That list is wider than most people expect, and the agricultural and OTR entries are where the largest sums sit. A big farm or equipment tire accumulates hours rather than miles, and the casing routinely outlives several treads.

Keeping casings worth sending

Three things end them: a tire run flat, under-inflation building heat where nothing visible reports it, and damage left unrepaired.

The fourth, which is really a decision rather than a fault, is running a tire too far. Pull it while there is still casing worth working with and it comes back. Run it past that point and there is nothing to retread.

About this store

The Boise store runs sixteen services, the longest list in Idaho, and is managed by Tyrel Perkins. Idaho Falls Commercial and Twin Falls also collect casings for the same plant.

See the national retreading page for how the program works and for all 54 collecting locations.

Questions

Retreading questions, Boise

Are the store and the plant the same place?

No. The store is at 8718 S. Eisenman Rd on (208) 368-7801. The plant is at 8670 on (208) 336-7877, and it sells no tires.

Who takes the casings across?

The store handles it. You deal with one place.

Can farm tires be retreaded?

Sound agricultural casings can be, and that is where the saving is largest, because the casing outlives several treads.

When should a tire come off?

Before the tread is gone, not after. The plant is on this road, so a casing pulled at the right moment is back quickly, and one pulled late is not worth collecting.
