Purcell Tire & Service in Elko, NV

The Purcell store at 1825 Idaho St in Elko is the most specialized location in the company: four services, five tire categories, and a mining tire program. It is built for equipment rather than vehicles.

The narrowest list in the company, on purpose

No other Purcell location offers as few services as this one, and that is not a gap. It is a store aimed squarely at one kind of customer.

Four services: mining fleet services, OTR services, retreading and tire and wheel balancing. No roadside assistance, no fleet accounts for highway trucks, no vehicle repair of any kind.

Five tire categories rather than nine: agricultural, commercial, OTR, tracks, and UTV and ATV. Passenger, light truck, trailer and industrial tires are not carried here.

What is left is a store that handles the tires on heavy off-highway equipment and does it without distraction.

Cost per hour is the only number that matters

Two identical tires on the same machine can differ by thousands of hours depending on pressure, load, haul road condition, speed and how quickly damage is caught. That spread is wider than the difference between most tires on the market.

Which is why a program beats a purchase. The levers that move cost per hour are inspection, pressure discipline, repairing what is repairable and retreading sound casings. Changing which tire you buy moves it least.

What to bring to the first conversation

  • The equipment list: make, model, tire size and quantity.
  • The application and surface for each machine.
  • Hours per shift and shifts per day.
  • The current failure mode: cuts, impact breaks, heat, sidewall damage or wear.
  • Site access, safety requirements and induction.

Questions

Questions about the Elko store

Do you sell car tires?

No. Elko carries agricultural, commercial, OTR, track, and UTV and ATV tires. For passenger or light truck tires in northern Nevada, use Reno or Fernley.

Is there roadside assistance from this store?

No. Elko does not list roadside assistance. The nearest Nevada locations offering it are Fernley and Reno.

What are the hours?

Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Can OTR casings be retreaded?

Sound ones can. Casings collected here go to a Purcell plant, and six of the seven plants retread OTR casings. Have a casing inspected before scrapping it.

How do I start a mining program?

Call with the equipment list, the application, the hours and what is failing. The store will set out what it can cover on your site.
