An account that covers two kinds of asset
Most fleet accounts are about trucks. This one is usually about trucks and machines together, because the store that holds it also runs mining fleet services and OTR services.
For an operation with tractors hauling to and from a site and loaders working on it, that puts both halves of the tire spend on one account, with one set of specifications and one invoice. The alternative, which plenty of businesses live with, is a tire supplier for the road fleet and a separate arrangement for the equipment, with nobody holding the total.
What gets agreed
- Tires by position and vehicle type, so steer, drive and trailer each get the same fitment every time rather than whatever was handy.
- Scheduled work in place of reactive work, which is where the cost difference actually lives.
- Terms and authorization settled once, which matters most at 2 AM. See roadside assistance.
- Records, so tire spend becomes a number per unit rather than a line in the general ledger.
The services the account draws on
Nine at this store: 24-hour roadside assistance, heavy-duty truck alignment, trailer alignment, mining fleet services, OTR services, retreading, tire and wheel balancing and wheel refurbishing.
What is not here: general vehicle repair. No brakes, oil changes, air conditioning or engine work are offered at this location, and no Purcell location in New Mexico offers them. If your fleet needs maintenance alongside tires, that is a second supplier.
What the store cannot supply
Passenger and light truck tires. Albuquerque carries seven of Purcell's nine categories, and those two are the gap.
For a fleet, that usually means the pickups. A business running tractors, trailers and a half-dozen company trucks can put everything except the pickups on this account, and it is better to know that at the start than to discover it the first time a service truck needs tires.
What to bring to the first conversation
The unit list by type with sizes and positions, including the equipment. Where the vehicles and machines work and on what surface. What has been failing. Current annual tire spend if you have it. Who authorizes work, and how you want it invoiced and reported.
