Purcell Tire & Service in Albuquerque, NM

The Purcell commercial store at 1400 Mission Avenue N.E. is the company's only location in New Mexico. Nine services, including mining fleet services and 24-hour roadside assistance, and seven of the nine Purcell tire categories.

Built for equipment, not for cars

This store is one of 13 Purcell locations running mining fleet services, and the rest of its list follows from that. OTR services for the machines, wheel refurbishing for the wheels under them, heavy-duty truck alignment and trailer alignment for the trucks that haul to and from.

The tire range says the same thing. Albuquerque carries seven of Purcell's nine categories and leaves out two: passenger and light truck. It is the only state in the Purcell network where neither is stocked anywhere.

For a car or a pickup, the nearest Purcell stores are in Arizona, Colorado and Utah.

Starting a mining or site program

A program here is the managed version of what the store does one machine at a time. Have this ready for the first conversation:

  • The equipment list: make, model, tire size and quantity.
  • The application and the surface for each machine: loading face, haul road, stockpile, yard.
  • Hours per shift and shifts per day.
  • The current failure mode: cuts, impact breaks, heat, sidewall damage or straightforward wear.
  • Site access, safety requirements and induction.
  • Who authorizes work, how you want it invoiced, and what reporting you need.

The last line matters more than it looks. A program whose numbers nobody sees is a service call that recurs rather than a cost that falls.

Retreading

Casings collected here are retreaded at a Purcell plant, the nearest being Phoenix, Arizona or Denver, Colorado.

On OTR tires this is where the serious money sits. The casing is the expensive structure, it survives several treads when it is looked after, and what ends one is almost always heat, a tire run flat, or damage left unrepaired. See retreading.

The only Purcell shelf in the state

Being the sole Purcell location in New Mexico changes how the store gets used. There is no second branch to fall back on, so the sizes you depend on are worth confirming before you need them rather than after.

That applies most to the categories nobody stocks deeply anywhere: large OTR sizes, industrial tires for specific machines, and tracks. A call in a quiet week establishes what is on the shelf, what can be got and how long it takes, which beats working from a catalog.

Tire stock for the region is held at the Purcell distribution locations in Phoenix and Denver, which is what the store draws on.

Questions

Questions about the Albuquerque store

Do you sell car tires?

No. This store carries agricultural, commercial, industrial, OTR, track, trailer, and UTV and ATV tires. Passenger and light truck tires are not stocked at this location, and New Mexico has no other Purcell listing.

What are the hours?

Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. 24-hour roadside assistance covers commercial units outside those hours.

Does Purcell run mining programs from here?

Yes. Albuquerque is one of 13 Purcell locations offering mining fleet services. Send the equipment list and what is failing, and the store will set out what it can cover.

Can you service a truck as well as equipment?

Yes. Roadside assistance, fleet services and alignment on tractors and trailers are all offered. What is not offered is general vehicle repair.

Where are casings retreaded?

At a Purcell plant in Phoenix or Denver. The store collects them, so you deal with Albuquerque rather than the plant.
