What a program is, as opposed to a supplier
A tire supplier sells you tires when you ask. A program decides which tires the machines run, when they come off, what happens to them afterwards, and what the whole thing costs per hour of operation.
The difference shows up in a number most sites do not have: cost per hour, per machine. Without it, tire spend is a series of unrelated invoices and nobody can say whether this year was better than last. With it, a decision about compound, pressure or haul road maintenance has a figure attached to it.
The conditions this part of the country imposes
Rock, heat and abrasion, in that order.
Cutting damage is the characteristic failure on a hard, sharp surface, and it is largely a function of the haul road rather than the tire. Heat is the one that destroys casings invisibly, building up in a tire run under-inflated or run too long between cool-downs. A tire that looks fine on the outside can be finished inside, which is what makes scheduled inspection worth more here than a reactive call.
What the program covers
- Specification by machine and application. A loader at the face and a haul truck on the road are not the same tire problem.
- Scheduled inspection, including pressures, which is where a program earns most of what it saves.
- Removal decisions, so a casing comes off while it is still worth retreading rather than after.
- Wheel refurbishing, because the wheel under an OTR tire costs real money and is repairable.
- OTR services for the fitting and repair work itself.
- Reporting, so the above becomes a cost you can act on.
What this store can and cannot do on site
Mobile service is not offered at this location. Seven Purcell locations run it, and none of them is in New Mexico.
That is worth stating plainly, because a program here is built around work at the store and arrangements you make rather than a Purcell truck arriving at your pit. What the store covers outside its walls is 24-hour roadside assistance for commercial units. Anything beyond that is a conversation with John Puchi about your specific site.
The first conversation
Bring the machine list with makes, models, tire sizes and quantities. The application and surface for each. Hours per shift and shifts per day. What is failing now, and how. Site access and induction requirements. Who authorizes work and what reporting you want.
About this store
The Albuquerque store is the only Purcell location in New Mexico, open Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. It carries OTR, industrial, agricultural, commercial, trailer, track, and UTV and ATV tires.
The nearest Purcell locations with mining fleet services are Tucson, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.
See the national mining fleet services page for all 13 locations.
