Big tires are a different trade
An OTR tire is not a truck tire scaled up. The weights involved put the work beyond ordinary tire equipment, the pressures are different, the mounting is different, and the consequences of getting any of it wrong are not comparable.
That is the first thing OTR services means: equipment and people set up for tires of that size. The second is what surrounds the fitting, which is where most of the value sits.
Repair before replacement
The national OTR services page sets out when an injury is repairable and why, on a tire of this value, repair is frequently the right answer.
It matters more here than in most places, because this is the only Purcell location in New Mexico and a replacement is therefore not a short errand. A tire written off in the yard is a decision taken without the information, and here it is also a wait.
Pressure is the whole game
Most OTR failures that look sudden were slow. A tire running ten percent low builds heat it cannot shed, and the damage accumulates inside the casing where nothing visible on the outside reports it. The failure then arrives at the least convenient moment and looks like bad luck.
Scheduled pressure checks cost almost nothing to perform and are the first thing dropped when a crew is busy. A tire program that includes them is doing more than a tire program that does not.
What this store carries
OTR tires, along with agricultural, industrial, commercial, trailer, track, and UTV and ATV tires. Albuquerque is the only Purcell location in New Mexico, and it is one of 41 running OTR services.
Mobile service is not offered here. Seven Purcell locations run it, none in New Mexico, so OTR work is done at the store unless you arrange otherwise.
Where casings go
To the Purcell retread plants in Phoenix or Denver, collected through this store. See retreading in Albuquerque.
The wheels come in too when they need it: wheel refurbishing is offered here, and an OTR wheel is expensive enough to be worth repairing rather than replacing.
About this store
The Albuquerque store is at 1400 Mission Avenue N.E., open Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, managed by John Puchi. It also runs mining fleet services, one of 13 Purcell locations to do so.
See the national OTR services page for all 41 locations.
