Retreading in Albuquerque, NM

Purcell Tire & Service collects casings for retreading at 1400 Mission Avenue N.E. in Albuquerque. The work is done at the Purcell plants in Phoenix and Denver. Call (505) 884-1957.

This store collects, it does not retread

Purcell runs seven retread plants, and none is in New Mexico. Albuquerque works with Purcell's retreading program: casings are taken in here, sent to a plant, and come back.

The two nearest plants are Phoenix, AZ and Denver, CO. Transport is handled through the store, so what you deal with is Albuquerque rather than a plant several states away. Albuquerque is one of 54 Purcell locations collecting casings.

Why distance matters to the arithmetic

Casings are heavy and bulky, and hauling them a long way erodes the saving that makes retreading worth doing in the first place.

For a customer in New Mexico, Phoenix and Denver are both within a sensible haul, which is the practical reason the program works here at all. It also means planning is worth more than it would be if the plant were down the street: a batch sent with notice gets scheduled, a trickle gets fitted in.

OTR is where the money is

On a commercial truck tire, retreading saves a useful amount. On an OTR tire it saves a great deal more, because the casing represents most of the cost of a very expensive tire and it can carry several treads over its life.

For a site running loaders and haul trucks, the casing survival rate is a number worth tracking. A low one is not about the tires. It is about heat, pressure and damage left unrepaired, which are the three things that finish a casing, and all three are decisions made on site rather than at a plant.

What this store sends

Casings from the categories it handles: commercial, agricultural, OTR, industrial and trailer tires among them. Tracks are not retreaded at any Purcell plant, so a worn set is replaced.

What this store does not handle is passenger and light truck tires, which it does not stock.

Getting casings into the program

Through the store, as part of normal tire work or as a planned batch. If you are working to a date, a seasonal changeover or a contract starting, say so when the casings are collected rather than after.

For a fleet or a site, the sensible version of this is an arrangement rather than a series of requests. See fleet services and mining fleet services.

Questions

Retreading questions, Albuquerque

Are tires retreaded in Albuquerque?

No. This store collects casings and sends them to a Purcell plant. The nearest are Phoenix and Denver.

Do I arrange transport?

No. The store handles collection and return.

How long does it take?

It depends on the plant's workload at the time, which is why a planned changeover is worth flagging in advance.

Will my casings pass?

That depends on how they were run rather than on what they are. A tire driven flat, a puncture nobody repaired, and months of running under-inflated are the three things that finish a casing.
