Specify for the route, not for the average
Fleet tire specification usually gets decided on price per tire and a general sense of what the vehicles do. For an operation whose routes involve sustained grades, that is the wrong basis.
A tire's working life is a function of load, speed and heat, and a route with long climbs and long descents produces more of all three than a flat one of the same distance. Two fleets running identical mileage on different terrain are not running the same tires, whatever the invoice says.
The useful conversation is therefore specific. What do your routes actually look like, how loaded are the units, how often, and which positions are you replacing early. Those answers lead somewhere; an annual mileage figure does not.
The items that matter most on this terrain
Pressure discipline. Heat is the mechanism behind most of what goes wrong here, and under-inflation is the largest single cause of it.
Alignment on both ends. A crabbed combination wastes fuel on every climb and scrubs rubber on every mile. See trailer alignment.
Casing protection. Tires work harder here, so retreading returns proportionally more, and heat is what takes casings away.
What an account settles
Specifications by position and vehicle type. Scheduled work rather than reactive work. Terms and authorization agreed once, which decides the speed of a roadside call. Records, so you can see which routes are eating tires rather than which months were expensive.
Sixteen services sit behind it, including OTR services, wheel refurbishing and the full vehicle repair list.
What this store does not offer
Mobile service. Denver is the Colorado location for planned tire work at your site. No Colorado location runs a managed mining program.
What to bring
The unit list with sizes and positions. The routes, including grades and typical loads. Which positions you replace early. What has been failing. Who authorizes work, and how you want it billed.
About this store
The Colorado Springs store opens at 7:00 AM, Monday to Friday, and is managed by Tyler Campbell. Denver, Loveland and Craig also hold accounts.
See the national fleet services page for the other 48 locations.
