Decide what you are prepared to wait for
Every site runs on an unspoken assumption about replacement speed, and most of them have never tested it.
The question is simple to ask and uncomfortable to answer. If the tire on your most important machine failed tomorrow, how long until another one is on it? For a common size the answer may be acceptable. For a large or unusual size, in this part of Colorado, it may be considerably longer than the operation can absorb.
Once that is written down for each machine, the decisions follow by themselves. Some sizes justify holding a spare. Some justify replacing a marginal tire early rather than running it to the edge. Some are fine to leave to chance. What does not work is treating all of them the same because nobody has done the exercise.
Repair before replacement
The national OTR services page sets out when an injury is repairable and why, on a tire of this value, repair is frequently the right answer.
Here that argument is stronger than anywhere, because the repair is available locally and the replacement is not. A tire returned to service is a machine working now rather than next week, which is a different calculation from the one a site with a supplier down the road is making.
Inspection is the part that buys you time
Most OTR failures that look sudden were developing for weeks: a cut working deeper, heat accumulating in an under-inflated casing, damage nobody logged.
Scheduled inspection converts those into planned work, which is the difference between choosing a date and being handed one. For an operation this far from an alternative, that is worth more than it is anywhere closer in.
What the store covers
Fitting and change-outs, repair, and casing inspection. Craig carries OTR tires along with every other Purcell category, and collects casings for retreading at the Denver plant.
Mobile service is not offered here. Seven Purcell locations run it, and Denver is the Colorado one. No Colorado location runs a managed mining program.
About this store
The Craig store is the only Purcell location in northwest Colorado, open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
See the national OTR services page for all 41 locations.
