On equipment wheels the sums are not close
A wheel from a loader or a haul truck is a substantial piece of engineering with a price to match. Refurbishing one costs a fraction of replacing it, and on the largest sizes the gap is wide enough that nobody should order a replacement without asking first.
Boise is the only Purcell location in Idaho offering OTR services, which means the tire and the wheel underneath it are handled at the same address. For a machine that is one period of downtime rather than two, and it is the reason these two services sit together on the list.
What the inspection decides
The national wheel refurbishing page covers the process. For an equipment wheel the inspection is the step worth paying for on its own, because it answers the question before an expensive replacement is ordered.
Not everything passes. A crack, or damage affecting the structure, ends a wheel, and a shop that refinishes one of those has done the customer no favor. The inspection happens before any work starts, which is the point of inspecting rather than refinishing and hoping.
Why the seal is the wheel
A tubeless tire has no inner tube. The air is held between the tire bead and a narrow band of metal on the wheel, and corrosion or damage there prevents a seal regardless of what tire is fitted.
That is the explanation behind the most common symptom: a position that keeps needing air, a new tire that behaves identically, and a driver who stopped mentioning it. The tire was never the problem.
Do it while the tire is off
The version of this service that adds no downtime is the one done when the tire has already come off, and the Purcell retread plant is on this road.
A casing going for a retread is a wheel standing free. Sending them through together is the obvious arrangement and it is worth asking for rather than waiting to be offered. See retreading.
When a vibration survives balancing
A correctly balanced tire on an out-of-round wheel still shakes. Tire and wheel balancing is at this address, so the two questions are settled in one visit.
About this store
The Boise store runs sixteen services and is managed by Tyrel Perkins. Idaho Falls Commercial is the only other Purcell location in Idaho offering wheel refurbishing.
