Purcell Tire & Service in Idaho Falls, ID: Commercial

The Purcell commercial store at 4490 Andco Dr handles trucks, trailers and fleet equipment in eastern Idaho. Seven services, all nine tire categories, and 24-hour roadside assistance. Cars go to the Purcell consumer store on East Anderson.

The truck side of a two-store city

Idaho Falls has two Purcell stores and they split the work cleanly. This one, on Andco Dr, is for trucks, trailers and fleets. The store on East Anderson is for cars and light trucks.

The current Purcell site lists this location as "Idaho Falls (Trucks)", which is the same place under a different name.

The split is worth knowing before you drive over. There are no brakes, oil changes, A/C or engine work here, and the consumer store does not handle commercial equipment or carry the agricultural and OTR tire categories.

Alignment on both ends of the unit

Offering both heavy-duty truck alignment and trailer alignment is the useful part of this list, and the two belong together.

A tractor out of alignment wears its own steer tires. A trailer that tracks crooked behind it drags the tractor's drives sideways for every loaded mile, and the driver feels almost nothing. Aligning the tractor and leaving the trailer fixes half the problem and leaves the half that is harder to see.

For a fleet that swaps trailers between tractors, which is most fleets, a crooked trailer spreads its wear around the whole fleet. Finding it means looking at the trailers rather than the trucks.

Tires and retreading

All nine categories are carried, including agricultural and OTR for the farm and construction equipment of eastern Idaho.

Casings collected here are retreaded at the Boise plant and returned ready to run. Nothing is retreaded on site. For a farm, the case is worth hearing: large agricultural tires accumulate hours rather than miles, and the casing routinely outlives several treads. See retreading.

Questions

Questions about the Idaho Falls commercial store

Is this the store for my car?

No. Cars and light trucks go to the Purcell consumer store at 595 East Anderson, on (208) 522-8111. This store handles trucks, trailers and fleets.

What are the hours?

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 24-hour roadside assistance covers commercial units outside those hours.

Should the trailer be aligned at the same time as the tractor?

Usually, yes. Both services are offered here, and doing them together is the only way to be sure which one was causing the wear.

Do you offer OTR services?

No. Boise is the Idaho location offering OTR services. This store does carry OTR tires and can supply them.

Can farm casings be retreaded?

Sound agricultural casings can be. This store collects them and the Boise plant does the work. Have a casing inspected before scrapping it.
