Move tires between positions before they are finished
On a machine, not every position wears at the same rate. A loader works its front tires harder than its rears. A haul truck loads its drive positions differently from its steers. Left alone, that produces a set where two tires are finished and the others have life in them, and the usual response is to replace the pair.
Managing positions changes that arithmetic. Moving tires between positions while they still have useful tread evens the wear across the set, which means the whole set reaches the end of its life together rather than in stages, and more of each tire gets used before it comes off.
It also matters for retreading: a tire worn evenly is a better casing candidate than one worn away in a single area.
This is not something that works by instinct. It needs somebody looking at the machine's tires on a schedule and deciding, which is a conversation worth having with the store rather than working out alone.
When a position keeps failing
If the same position on the same machine keeps going, moving tires around will not fix it.
That pattern points at something about the machine or the work: a load that always sits one way, an operator turning consistently in one direction, a haul road with a camber, or a mechanical problem on that corner. Worth identifying before buying more tires for it.
Repair before replacement
The national OTR services page sets out when an injury is repairable and why, on a tire of this value, repair is frequently the right answer.
It belongs alongside the position question above: a tire with a repairable injury might be returned to a lighter position rather than replaced outright, which is two decisions rather than one.
What the store covers
Fitting and change-outs, repair, and casing inspection. Loveland carries OTR tires and every other Purcell category, and offers wheel refurbishing.
Mobile service is not offered; Denver is the Colorado location for it. No Colorado location runs a managed mining program.
About this store
The Loveland store runs sixteen services, opens at 7:00 AM, and is managed by Joe Servin. Denver, Colorado Springs and Craig also run OTR services.
See the national OTR services page for all 41 locations.
