Wet ground changes the damage
Machines working wet, soft and churned surfaces pick up a different kind of injury from machines on dry rock.
Material gets pressed into the tread rather than striking it, and it stays there. A stone or a fragment worked into a tread groove migrates inward over hours of operation, and by the time anything is visible it has reached further than the surface suggests. Water follows it, and water in a casing does damage that nothing outside the tire reports.
Which is why inspection on this kind of ground is about picking the tread rather than looking at it. A tire that looks clean from a cab can be carrying several things that will finish it.
Repair is the service that saves money
The national OTR services page sets out when an injury is repairable and why, on a tire of this value, repair is frequently the right answer.
On wet ground that assessment is worth more than usual, because what looks like a surface cut has often carried material further in than it appears, and what looks minor is sometimes not.
What this store covers
Fitting and change-outs, repair, and casing inspection. Lacey carries OTR tires along with every other Purcell category, and collects casings for retreading at the plant in Portland, Oregon.
Mobile service is not offered at this location. Seven Purcell locations run it, none of them in Washington, so the work happens at the store unless you arrange otherwise.
Mining fleet programs are run from Monroe, the only Washington location offering them.
Pressure, still
The failures that look sudden rarely are. A tire run under-inflated builds heat it cannot shed and degrades internally where nothing visible reports it.
Scheduled pressure checks are the plainest work available on a site, and the first thing dropped when a crew is busy.
About this store
The Lacey store is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, managed by Darren Soares. Renton and Monroe also run OTR services.
See the national OTR services page for all 41 locations.
